Flatbed Driver Pay and Benefit Summary

Training / Orientation Pay 
During your training/orientation, motel arrangements are made and paid for by South Shore Transportation Company. You will also receive $550 upon completion of 6-day orientation[1] 

Driver Percentage Pay 
25% of load line-haul revenue [2]
26% on USG loads greater than 250 miles - miles calculated from plant to county seat (Gypsum and River Rouge loads only)

Vacation Pay 
· One week of vacation after one year of employment 
· Two weeks of vacation after two years of employment

· Paid at $125 per day 
· Eligible on date-of-hire 

Military Leave 
· Time off for required military training and service 

Funeral Leave 
· Up to three days of paid funeral leave for the death of an immediate family member 

Driver Trainer Pay 
· Driver Trainers receive $150 for each week (5 days) when training 

Cell Phone Reimbursement 
· Cellular phone reimbursement at $35 / month flat fee if you keep one with you during working hours 

Referral Bonus 
Earn an EXTRA $500 for every experienced driver you refer who is hired. We pay $100 after the employee’s 1-month anniversary and the balance ($400) after the employee’s 6-month anniversary. As you can tell, we are looking for good drivers that will stay with us.

Qualifications

Legal

1) Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL Class A) in your state of residence 
2) Must be able to pass DOT physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance test (negative non-dilute test result)

Company and Physical

1) Minimum age of 25 
2) Minimum of 1 year and 100,000 miles of verifiable tractor-trailer (5th wheel) experience in all weather 
3) Stable work history 
4) No DUI or reckless driving convictions, no positive controlled substance tests or felony convictions past 10 years 
5) No more than three moving violations, or combination of one highway “at fault” accident and two citations within the past three years. “At fault” accidents or citations in both personal and commercial vehicles are included. 
6) Must be able to pass South Shore’s road test 

Job Description - Truck Driver

Purpose of the Position

To conduct the movement of freight efficiently, professionally and safely within the time frame allotted. Deliveries will vary from short distances to being away a couple days at a time.

Major Responsibilities

1) Safely delivering loads at the specified delivery time – may occasionally include Saturday, Sunday and evening deliveries
2) Compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, local speed and traffic laws
3) Treating Customers and other motorists with courtesy
4) Communication with Central Dispatch and Terminal Managers for loading and any problems that you incur. Each working day a check-in call is expected by 9am; 11am if not working that day. When late on a delivery a call is expected at 7am. It is unnecessary to call in on Saturday, Sunday or holidays unless told to do so by dispatch.
5) Must work outdoors in all weather
6) Maintaining driver log book based on 7 day, 60 hour workweek
7) Pre/Ongoing/Post-trip inspections as required and as necessary
8) Loading & Unloading, Strapping & Unstrapping, Tarping & Untarping of freight
9) Inventorying of freight at receivers to validate bill of lading, getting required signature accepting goods
10) Timely transmitting of data via Qualcomm or other means as necessary
11) Timely filling-out and turning-in necessary paperwork to the terminal for billing and payroll


Qualifications

7) Must exhibit professionalism in appearance and performance, no tank-tops, cutoffs or torn clothing, rubber soled shoes or boots must be worn 
8) Throw 10-15 straps over truck (6-10#) 2-4 times per day
9) Pull tarp (60-120#), tarp/untarp 2-4 times per day
10) Pull bungee cords (30-40) chest level down 2-4 times per day
11) Climb in and out of cab and on and off flat bed trailer several times per day
12) Prolonged sitting, up to 14 hours per day
13) Performs pre/post-trip inspections, stooping, general bending and crouching 

Additional Information

All employees are required to go through various training seminars, programs and classes to
continually improve on their skills (on-going education) and knowledge.

All employees are required to attend the semi-annual safety meetings usually held in April/May
and November/December.
